RBC Heritage is in full swing

Crowds gathered at Harbour Town Golf Links for the opening ceremony and start of the RBC Heritage on Tuesday.

At the opening ceremony, reigning champion Stewart Cink hit a golf ball into Calibogue Sound accompanied by a cannon blast, a strong start to the PGA Tour event. This golf tradition took place after a parade through Harbour Town that ended at the 18th hole.

During the opening ceremony, 11 Beaufort County high school seniors who were named Heritage Classic Foundation Scholars were honored for their accomplishments.

Following the opening ceremony, the RBC Heritage held a youth day putting contest in which children 15 and under were “invited to putt alongside the pros.” There was also an autograph station where kids gathered to have the professional golfers sign their hats and notebooks.

The RBC Heritage this year has full attendance following two years of COVID-19 restrictions. In 2020, it was hosted with no spectators and in 2021 the event allowed a limited number of spectators to attend.

Tuesday was the first day that spectators were allowed at Harbour Town this week and people could gather around the green to watch the golfers practice for the upcoming event. Wednesday is the pro-am, where local golfers are able to play alongside the professionals.

Thursday is the start of the event, with the first round starting at 7 a.m. The event ends Sunday with the final round and a champion is determined.
