Additional Showtimes: 5 pm, Friday, March 29

Marta Pereira da Costa is the first and likely only professional female Portuguese guitar player specifically versed in fado, the soulful music from Portugal recently acknowledged by UNESCO as part of the World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. She draws on threads of fado, jazz and Brazilian folk music, and is joined by fado singer Duarte for this Savannah Music Festival debut.

Called the “Yo-Yo Ma of the harp” by Vogue, SMF favorite Bridget Kibbey expands the expressive and virtuosic scope of the instrument as she ushers listeners from the baroque courts of Europe, to the rhythms of Western Africa, to the indigenous melodies of South America – landing right in the heart of New York City. With an ensemble featuring Nuevo Latino luminaries, Bach to Brazil is J.S. Bach meets Albéniz, meets gnawa, jequibau, cumbia and more.

“Kibbey made it seem as though her instrument had been waiting all its life to explode with the gorgeous colors and energetic figures she was getting from it.”

The New York Times

Please note: This project is replacing Germán López ALMA, which has unfortunately been canceled due to scheduling conflicts. Tickets already purchased will still be honored, or they can be refunded by calling Savannah Box Office at 912.525.5050.
